Works well, when it POSTs.,
Asus does know how to make a excellent motherboard, and this no exception. Quality equipment here all right. Excellent features, nice looks, and runs well.
But, it isn’t without it’s faults. This board can be extremely picky about the kind of RAM you want to use, so I’d advise you to check the DRAM qualified vendor’s list before you use or buy RAM. If you don’t, it’ll be hit or miss, and the board might not POST. This happened with me, and the board wouldn’t work until I reseated the CPU and reset the CMOS. The onboard Asmedia Controller is picky, and I’d recommend you disable it in the BIOS, which, by the way, is brilliant, and honestly user friendly. I was able to easily clock my DDR3-1600 RAM up to that alacrity, as the SPD was detected at 1333 at first.
I’m using a Phenom II X4 955 which works well, but as I’m still using the stock cooler, runs a small hot. ~45C idle, 65C high load. Regardless, the board works when it’s configured well, and if you’re using the right kind of RAM, and you’re a tad lucky. But as for how the board performs, it’s fantastic.
Recommended for the aficionado.

I’m stuck with a terrible board.,
Asus help for motherboard is the absolute worst. My motherboard runs but will only recognize 8gb memory. Only 2 slots work. There are 6 slots. With contacting help, I got literally nonsensical responses. With much exasperation, I got a recommend for an rma and place in for it. I’ve been tiresome to get rma for weeks and can’t even get a response as to whether or not the rma has even been started. No response to my many emails. Buy at your own peril. My former motherboard (xfx) had fantastic help. I’ll by no means buy another asus mb.
Update: finally got an rma, with numerous tech emails. Tech finally single-minded the board is defective.
Update: 3 months out from buy. Warranty running out. Still no word from tech help about the rma. Motherboard is still defective. It looks like I’m stuck for the cash. Also with lockups and crashes, not to mention the fact that I can’t use all the memory slots because the board won’t recognize them all.
Another Update: I bought my “republic of gamers” board in March, 2011. That was 6 months ago. The way their warranty works is that “if” they have another motherboard like peas in a pod to the one you bought, they will replace it. When I look on their help site, my rma is still open because they haven’t “received” another motherboard to replace mine yet. My guess is they aren’t making this particular motherboard anymore so I’ll by no means see the replacement, even though their tech help single-minded it was a terrible board.
Burned once, their flaw, burned twice, my flaw.
Buy an Asus at your own risk.
My next motherboard won’t be an Asus.
