Netbook that feels like a workstation!,
Loving this netbook!!
Suprisingly, …I bought this to use for a mobile HTPC (home theater pc).
I currently have an ancient dual core integrated graphic laptop set up in my living room running boxee through VGA and audio cable, and sought after to replace it with something that had HDMI and could be went between rooms.
This netbook is awesome!, feels more snappy than my M4400 mobile workstation while surfing the net, movie quality and graphics are fantastic, long battery life for traveling.
It makes my other boxee laptop seem obtuse slow.
Vital upgrades:
Windows 7 home premium or ultimate (allow for Ion auto graphic switching between intel integrated and Ion dedicated)
2GB ram (Note the Crucial memory listed on Amazon buy together is WRONG!!!, and wont work, ..hopefully they will fix this, but verify before buying)
I still am only running 1 GB while I wait for the new memory to come in, and still fantastic alacrity
Issues: I struggled a bit to get the right HDMI sound driver with fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate as it was not listed on Asus website or on Nvidia
…supposedly it should be included in the nvidia Ion drivers, ..but mine would not work.
Just search for Nvidia HDMI driver, Ion
I have not had a chance to test the battery life yet, but show over 9hr while on integrated graphics and 60% brightness, …over 6hr with dedicated ION graphic and super performance selected
I still have not installed and games, or 3D design programs yet, but I am sure it can handle it
So Pros:
Quick enough for average notebook use that you would not know it is a netbook
Fantastic graphics performance
Fantastic battery life
HDMI out
slick design
Cons:
Windows starter does not allow for auto graphic switching
cannot be tuned on by mouse from sleep
Will run warm when running HD, but not terrible
So excellent I want to use it all the time for my main notebook and have a hard time leaving it connected to a TV
I would recommend it!! …in fact I dont reckon I will ever buy a larger laptop again
Update:
Netflix uses Microsoft Silverlight to play content, ..which does not help the Ion graphics card
..HD is choppy and un acceptable
Though watching youtube, amazon movies and hulu content in full screen HD works fantastic (uses Flash not silverlight!)
if you are buying this to watch netflix, …you are out of luck as long as microsoft silverlight powers the content

Very pleased so far,
This is my first netbook and I’m loving it already. I’ve had it for less than a week but I’m already using it more than my primary laptop. The purpose of buying is for a 10 week study abroad trip in Europe that I leave for this week. To this end I am very pleased with the size and consequence of the netbook. This unit is fantastic for travel.
A link things to note:
I used Microsoft’s cheap student upgrade program to go from Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Professional (costs about $30) and I’m certainly pleased I made the switch. Starter is just a bit ridiculous in my opinion.
I’ve also ordered a 2gb stick of RAM from Crucial. THe apparatus is speedy and is brilliant for internet, productivity and media streaming. It can get bogged down when running several intensive programs together (Skype, Firefox, iTunes, etc) so you can’t go incorrect putting in extra memory. Like the Windows 7 student upgrade, this will only cost you about $30.
By and large, fantastic product that I would highly recommend.

Fantastic netbook,
I really sought after an Nvidia Ion powered netbook. This delivers. I can play SFIV with background and AA off at 60fps. I can also play DDO at Mid/high settings around 40-60fps in dungeons. I’m still going to use it for school, it’s just that school’s going to be a small more fun. Ha.
The top has a nice matte black end with a silver ASUS badge in the middle, I like the “off” shield for the webcam, the screen is a nice matte end (and SUPER bright, even at the dimmest settings), keyboard is nicely scaled (still getting used to the tiny right shift key), mount has a long cable and is not a wall wart.
N570 obviously hardly outperforms the N550, but it’s nice to see an upgrade. Pretty cool that netbooks are utilizing DDR3 (notable upgrade to 2GB, and highly recommended). Here’s a link to the module that worked for me: [...] (make sure you buy from Crucial to ensure the right product).
Trackpad and palm rest area are also matte black, power/status lights are very bright. One of my laptops is going to be obsolete because of how excellent this netbook is. Streaming at 1080p is silky charming IF you have a quick internet… obviously, but some folks don’t know this. I don’t have a quick internet connection… but my neighbor does
Runs pretty hot at load with super performance on, which was expected. And if you weren’t expecting it, then guess it. I’m plotting on upgrading to Win7 Professional to utilize Nvidia Optimus, but if you can’t get the $30 student upgrade, the difference in battery life is probably not value it. Oh yeah, and it comes with a 56Wh battery, I believe. Fantastic product from ASUS.
