review by J. Brunner “IT minivan dad” for EVGA GeForce GTX460 SE 1 GB GDDR5 PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card 01G-P3-1366-TR
So far so excellent!,
Prior to this I was using an evga GeForce 9500 GT. My Windows Experience score for graphics was 5.4 (which was the lowest score I had in all the categories, making my by and large score a 5.4). The card was okay, but I couldn’t play newer games like Rift at high settings without a pretty terrible framerate. Chose to jump on this card because (a) I trust evga based on my past experiences with their cards, (b) it’s got very excellent ratings over on other sites that sell it (like newegg), (c) it’s only $140 with you take the $20 rebate into account!
Installation of the card went fine. Be aware that it really takes up TWO slots on your motherboard. It only plugs into 1 PCI-e slot, but you’ll need the slot below it free because the card is quite wide. Also, it requires 2 6-pin power adapters (it comes with an adapter for 1, but you’ll need a 2nd one free and ready to go before you can install the card). In terms of length, it’s below 8.5″ long so that’s not a problem.
I’ve only had the card running for a few hours so far, but so far so excellent. It’s no louder than my ancient card, and my Windows Experience score for graphics jumped from 5.4 to 7.2 (for both graphics and “gaming graphics” categories)! More importantly, Rift runs at high settings w/o a hiccup. Hooray!

Value every penny!,
When I bought this card some people told me I was waisting my cash. Due to there being a disabled SM, one would reckon the card would perform much slower than the GTX 460 786MB. Yes and no, At higher resolutions the SE card outperforms the regular 786MB card. I was playing StarCraft 2 at Ultra settings and running at 65FPS @1920×1080. I was also pleased when playing Crysis 2 Multiplayer demo at Hardcore settings with no slow downs. My windows 7 WEI score is 7.3 for Windows Aero Performance and 7.3 for Gaming Graphics. I do plot on SLI this with a second card.
Pros:
Silent even during long gaming sessions
Can handle most current gen games at full point settings (Metro 2033 is the “New” Crysis)
HDMI out
Can be easly overclocked (EVGA includes “Precision” You can drag sliders to overclock on the glide)
Cons:
Power usage is rated at 260W
Requires 2 6Pin power connectors (Comes with 2x Molex to 6Pin adapters)

Fantastic Budget Card!,
This thing is working fantastic for me so far. Downloaded the free EVGA software to overclock it and I’ve got it at 810/1620/1940 all on stock voltage without any hiccups. Runs most games on max settings or close to max settings with few issues. Thinking about picking up another to SLI them together.
Just make sure you’re aware this isn’t a “right” GTX460 since it has fewer CUDA cores, but the difference is mostly negligible when you overclock and for the price it’s an brilliant buy.
Highly recommended.
