(I bought this notebook for $450 at Staples.)This hp has a 3.1gz AMD Athlon II quad-core processor,6gb memory (Ram),a 1TB (1000GB)internal memory, an ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics with up to 2943MB shared memory, Windows 7 64 bit home premium (only comes with Microsoft Word and Exel),and wireless internet connection. I am in 9th grade and I bought this notebook because I was tired of having to share the home notebook with my two small sisters, and I sought after privacy. It came with a keyboard, and a mouse, so i had to buy a watch separately. When I first saw this, I was a small surprised at the features on this notebook for the price. Our home notebook is ancient and with i bought this, I’m probably by no means going to go on our home notebook again. This is a fantastic notebook for the average person, and i can handle the average game. If you are looking for a cheap GAMING notebook, then I suggest replacing the video card. I have fallout 3 for my HP and it runs very smoothly, but on low video quality. The video card for this HP is built into the motherboard,so installing a new video card should be simple, but if you are not plotting on gaming, this is not needed. By and large, this is a fantastic, and cheap notebook for the average person. But for gaming, an additional video/graphics card may be necessary.

    HP Pavillion P7-1010 Desktop Notebook

I had originally bought a Sony laptop, but with it and a replacement both failed, I chose to go back to a desktop PC: I didn’t like the puny 15″ screens, the feeble loudspeakers, nor the tiny keyboards on laptops.

I bought the HP p7-1010 a link of months ago and it has been a joy, with no issues at all since day one.

It’s quick (quad-core processor), has an absurdly large hard disk (1 terabyte, or 1000GB), and is silent in operation. There are four various types of memory-card slots and 6 USB ports.

The graphics card is integrated, not stand-alone; so if you are a gamer, you might prefer to upgrade to a separate graphics card. I don’t play graphic-intensive games; so this was not an issue for me. All I care about is that Netflix movies stream perfectly well, which they do.

One thing to note is that the case itself is quite large (approximately 15″ high, 16″ deep, 6.5″ wide) so you do need a sufficiently large area to keep it on. I keep mine on a small, low desk (12″ high) next to my desk; so the size is not noticeable as the top of the PC is below the level of the desk. (There are smaller versions of desktop PCs, but my reading suggests that these are more prone to overheating than the full-size versions, since they cram the same amount of equipment into a much smaller space.)

Regarding reliability, Consumers Reports places HP in the middle of the pack, by the side of with Compaq, Dell, and eMachines.

If you are looking for a full-size desktop, this might work very well for you.

(BTW, I was new to Windows 7 and found the brief video tutorials on Microsoft’s website very helpful in getting up to alacrity and learning all the nifty shortcuts.)

Let me preface this by saying that before I bought this last week, I was using a 2005 eMachines desktop which had been rebuilt by a notebook-savvy relative. I may be easily impressed by some features that users have had for a long time. I don’t know how long Windows 7 has been out, but I’ve been using Vista for the past six years, so this was certainly an upgrade for me.

The Pros: The price is fantastic, in my opinion, for how much quicker and more efficiently this notebook works than the ones I worked with on a daily basis (whether at home or work.) I like the flat screen watch- it’s huge! The picture is crystal clear. The PC is aesthetically lovely, as well, with a sleek black design. The speakers are compact and have fantastic sound. This notebook has twice the memory my ancient one did, so I’m really excited about that. I also needed to contact HP tech help twice since purchasing my notebook (more on that later) and they were extremely helpful and patient. Well, the first guy I talked to was. The second guy was fine, too, but he kept tiresome to sell me stuff, and that was a bit annoying.

The Cons: I bought my notebook last Wednesday (August 3). Late Friday afternoon, I started having some distress with it. I tried to wake it from sleep mode, and I could only see the background image- no task bar, no icons, no start menu, no matter what I tried. I restarted it several times and nothing changed. I had to contact tech help, and we spent a small over an hour tiresome uncommon things to get my notebook to work. Eventually we had to get into safe mode to save my files on a flash drive, and then we did a factory reset. With that, the notebook worked fine- until the next day. We had a few more instances where this mysterious desktop problem occurred, but we were able to fix it by restarting the notebook. Then yesterday (August 10, with 7 days of ownership) nothing would come up on the notebook screen. It was just black. I tried restarting it several times, to no avail. I called tech help again, and we single-minded that the hardware was in pure shape, but the software obviously had a flaw. The technician tried to get me to upgrade to Windows Home Premium, which irritated me for a few reasons. One, I don’t have any cash- this notebook was bought with an inheritance check, which is now gone. Two, the product that Microsoft gave me SHOULD work. It had only been a week- not years of use. So we tried another factory reset, and that didn’t even work this time. I was told that I should exchange the notebook at the store from which it was bought for the fastest result- if I called Microsoft, they would liable have me do the same things I had already done twice with HP and then take time to possibly send me replacement software. So the notebook has been exchanged, and so far, it’s working perfectly. That being said, if we run into the same problem (hopefully we won’t) I will certainly be revising this review.
