review by Zabquart for Intel Socket 1156/Intel H55/MATX Motherboard, Retail BOXDH55TC
Fantastic board for mid-grade HTPC,
I bought this motherboard for a mid-grade media pc I was building. I needed a micro-ATX board for the Lian Li PC-C37 media case. (BTW a very nice case, very sleek). 4 gigs of ram and the i3core-540 processor, this thing has more than enough resources to run a media pc. Usually I prefer separate video and audio cards but because I was ballon-on-a-budget, I sought after the video and audio cards to be integrated. If you don’t be going to to use it for gaming or other high end visual applications this will work nicely. The media software XBMC runs very charming, videos look fantastic. Installation instruction is basically a large diagram with pretty basic explanations. Most people who buy motherboards should be honestly technically inclined and thus don’t need to have their hands held. Pretty much the exact contrary of all those completely unnecessary install disks for wireless cards and routers. It does come with a nice motherboard driver CD which worked fantastic if you are running windows. I hadn’t tried Linux yet so I can’t offer any insight on the driver help there. Ubuntu usually has pretty excellent driver help. Lots of USB ports, and even an ancient school PS2 if you happen to still be using some ancient school peripherals. Nice integrated gigabit LAN port works well for transferring large media files.
An fascinating note. Space is a bit tight in some areas on the board. If you choose to add a PCI-Express card the back of the card will come very close to the DIMM slots. You have to have the securing brackets for your memory in the upright and locked position in peacefulness to fit your PCI-Express card. So Install your RAM first in the slots nearest the CPU. Also no direct firewire ports on the motherboard. You will have to buy a card to convert to firewire. Not a huge deal but something that left me scratching my head when I went to plug in my firewire front port.
By and large a fantastic board for my build. If you are looking to build a nice mid-grade apparatus (Especially for a HTPC) with restricted space in your case, this motherboard will work nicely for a foundation.

Have a similar setup as Zabquart,
(4 gigs ram and i3core-540 3.06 GHz processor) Home Theater PC Win7 Pro. Quick, fantastic performer with Kingston KVR1066D3N7/1G. Probably the fastest most versatile PCs I’ve ever built. Suggest you update bios to the latest on Intel website to dodge any conflicts. HDMI out works independently of the VGA/DVI outputs, so you can view on another TV/watch simultaneously. HD audio & video are fantastic. Also runs virtual PC (XP Mode, XP in a window) so I can use all my older apps. Simple plug-in of card reader…whole PC took only minutes to build!
