Works for Both Single and Dual CPU Combo,
Tested this processor running on ASUS P6X58D Premium – LGA 1366 – X58 – DDR3 – USB 3.0 SATA 6 Gb/s – ATX Motherboard which is a single CPU motherboard on X58 Chipset. Also running as dual CPU on EVGA Classified Super Record 2 Motherboard 270-WS-W555-A2 on Intel 5520 chipset.
Anyway, this is a retail/box Xeon processor and it does not come with CPU cooler. You have to buy the CPU cooler separately. On my Asus motherboard, I am pairing it with the Noctua NH-D14 but for the eVGA you need something more special because of the uncommon backplate. On the eVGA, I am using Noctua NH-U12DX 1366 CPU Cooler for LGA 1366 Xeon 5500- 2 Pack I can recommend this if you are using 4U or taller, if not this will not fit.
I can only say excellent things about this latest Xeon CPU as of the time of writing and could not imagine the overclocking potential it offers. Another goodies is you get the new AES encryption help which will help you on speeding up many enterprise specific applications which has to do with encryption/decryption. For the price it is asking now, this may very well be the best priced Intel Xeon CPU which offers excellent balance in performance/watt.
