Logitech USB Laptop Speaker Z305

I have a 17″ HP Entertainment Laptop. It’s supposed to have some pretty excellent Altec Lansing top firing speakers and I’ve always thought they were decent until I installed this. The sound was much richer and even at full volume I did not detect any significant distortion.

This is the best laptop-specific speaker I’ve ever tried. The clip on design gets the speakers off your desk and the USB connection allows the speakers to be used anywhere, even while the laptop is sitting on your lap. The sound controls are simple. The speaker has an on/off button as well as volume up and down. That’s it. It’s simple and just brings a higher quality sound to the laptop without being obtrusive or bulky.

The length of the speaker is very well thought out. It’s about 2″ too small from extending the full length of my laptop. I would imagine they’re a bit huge for smaller laptops and just right for the average 15.4″ laptop screen.

The carrying case is a nice touch if you travel, but I reckon even without the case these speakers will be fine. They’re very sturdy and have no soft parts that can be easily hurt.

If portability is vital to you, and you take note to music, play games, or chat on web cam, I reckon you will really delight in these speakers. For $59.99 it’s a very cheap way to upgrade your laptops sound system.

As a seasoned traveler/road warrior of >14 years, I have learned every small nuance to make the travel “experience” more efficient. I have tried literally dozens of notebook/laptop external speakers from HP, Sony, Microsoft and even Logitech. Finally, a notebook speaker or should I say SOUND BAR for that is really what this item is in all actuality. If you own a home theater setup, you may be familiar with sound bars already.

This Logitech Z305 is more than just an external speaker for a laptop notebook…it’s a huge stepup from the factory installed sound system…with one caveat: it’s only as excellent as your sound card itself. As the ancient cliche goes “garbage in = garbage out” right?

In peacefulness to get it to work, I had to do a slight side-step to Control Panel and change the default settings for Sound thus bypassing the factory preset default. Logitech does a fantastic job with the user blue-collar (aka “quick setup guide”) and it clarifies what to do if you don’t get sound immediately. As stated, it was simply a matter of changing one setting in Control Panel/Sound.

As for the design, it’s GORGEOUS! Intuitively engineered with sleek lines and yet Logitech managed to retain user-friendly experience too. So simple, with just one USB 2.0 plug-n-play that can hideaway as needed unlike the zillions of other external speaker systems with hideous & obtrusive wires cluttering the desk. Honestly, with it clipped onto the rear part of my 12.1″ widescreen LCD show I barely know it’s there except for the magnificent sound.

Rich mid-tones, subtle but distinct bass without any of that typical “tinny” metallic reverberations. I just finished watching “Robin Hood” on Blu-Ray and the sound had me immersed completely….near as excellent as my $2000 hometheater system.

I’m a small disappointed in the $59 price tag and I am very sure that will come down with this product has been out for a while longer! All in all, it’s a very excellent buy for anyone with a laptop/notebook and desiring awesome sound quality.

I have serious issues with the speakers on my MacBook. For one, I can’t even figure out where exactly the speakers are since there are no standard speaker holes like you see with other laptops. Perhaps, that simple fact is the wits why I typically have to have the volume all the way up to hear things on my laptop. The sound quality really doesn’t drive me batty until I’m doing something several feet away from the laptop, like cooking dinner while listening to music or a pod cast, and I can’t hear what’s playing. The Logitech z305 Clip-on Laptop Speaker solves this problem and delivers fantastic sound quality and volume. (Yay!)

At times I can be technically impaired when it comes to installing new electronic devices. Thankfully, Logitech makes their instructions crystal clear and simple to follow. Installing this speaker on your laptop is very simple. You just have to clip it on the watch part of the laptop and plug it into your USB port. With that I just needed to enable the speaker with a few clicks in my Mac settings and I was set. From start to end installation and configuration took me about 30 seconds. Since the speaker is powered by the laptop, there’s no need to worry about batteries. The clip is nicely padded so you won’t have to worry that it will destruction your laptop.

When the speaker is not in use you can store it in the nice small drawstring storage bag that was included. I could live with or without the storage bag, but I certainly reckon it was a nice touch.

By and large, I reckon this is a fantastic product that is simple to use and thoughtfully designed.
